Bhawan - Gurgaon
Kainaz Contractor and Rahul Dua, the restaurateur couple behind the street food-themed spot, have had massive success in the casual dining space with each of their previous projects, namely Rustom’s, Cafe Lota, and Naapa Dori Cafe. Bhawan is their latest project which was almost about to open doors in March 2020, instead was launched as a delivery service for the street savouring homebound audience.
Their gorgeous decor and aesthetic with a pop of colours give you a lively vibe while you devour finger-licking chaats and gulp some coolers.
While working with them, I felt their deep sense of passion for Street food and their desire to bring India’s vast and varied chaat, snacks and mithai repertoire to the capital. Moreover, they wanted to create a sensory experience not just with their food but with the art deco accents and a curated audio-visual loop.
The restaurant is divided into indoor and outdoor areas with separate zone controls, and the indoor area showcases an audio-visual display of retro videos from the 60s and 70s. It's a delight to look at these TV screens, retrofitted to look like vintage wooden box sets. Kainaz and Rahul carefully curated the content and selection. Bhawan intended to serve nostalgia not just for your tastebuds but also for your eyes and ears.
If you're confused about what to choose from the menu, just count from 1 to 5, move your finger across the entire menu, and when it stops, let the delicacy surprise you.
